Google is a Winning Product
Google is a winning product. For many people, and many use cases, Google gives you best-in-class search results. It’s first in mind when you need to find something on the internet.
Google follows the two design rules, including using a single primitive, the search result. When I search for a website or image, I use the same input field. Results even cross-pollinate between result types. If I search for a restaurant, maybe I get a Google Map result for the same restaurant in the primary Google feed. Another reason why the single primitive is so powerful. It’s interoperable.
Who is Google not a winning product for?
If you care a lot about privacy, DuckDuckGo might be your winning product. And will be so for the group of people more interested in privacy than more features and potentially better results.
If you’re searching for products, or to shop, Amazon is probably your better solution and winning product for that use case.
It’s in the numbers. Amazon surpassed Google on product searches a couple of years ago. For finding a specific product, and acquiring it, Amazon is the winning product objectively by the numbers.
Google is one of the GOATs. Winner’s circle. Podium finish. The simplicity and power of their product has allowed them to build one of the greatest businesses of all time.
